Move over Barack and Hillary. The GOP has a new bogeyman or bogeywoman rather as freshman New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is making Republicans cringe on the daily.
In the past week Ocasio-Cortez proposed a 70 percent tax on the richest citizens in the United States and said that the climate change issues facing the planet is “our World War II.”
“Millennials and people, you know, Gen Z and all these folks that will come after us are looking up and we’re like: ‘The world is going to end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?,” she said.
Ocasio-Cortez has quickly become one of the more recognizable faces in the Democratic party after defeating incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in a primary last June. Ocasio-Cortez won in a route, garnering 57 percent of the vote.
“What I see is that the Democratic Party takes working class communities for granted,” Ocasio-Cortez said via The New York Times. “They take people of color for granted and they just assume that we’re going to turn out no matter how bland or half-stepping these proposals are.
Ocasio-Cortez is just 29-years-old and is from The Bronx, New York. She graduated college from Boston University in 2011. She is the youngest woman to ever serve in the United States Congress.
