Albertans will have to settle for regular strength beer after the province has stripped liquor store shelves of overly strong brews.

The federal government has deemed any beer with over 11.9 per cent alcohol content as a spirit, prompting the Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission to stop sales.

The strong beer won’t be sold again until the commission receives a report of federal regulations.

Most beers have an alcohol content of around five per cent.
