Sorry kids, there’s no getting out of the first day of school because of this heat and humidity.
Halifax Regional School Board spokesman Doug Hadley said yesterday they have been receiving “lots of calls” from parents about whether it’s safe to send their kids back to school in this hot weather.
“School is on. No question whatsoever,” he declared yesterday. “The advice we got back from the Department of Education is while uncomfortable, (the heat) isn’t a risk to students.”
Tens of thousands of students in HRM are returning to class today.
Hadley said most won’t have air conditioning, as only a few of the newer buildings — like Halifax West High School — have air conditioning.
For those schools without, Hadley advises students take proper precautions, such as staying hydrated and keeping in shaded areas when outdoors.
