There’s a better way to enjoy a great fish sandwich, and it doesn’t involve a can of tuna!

High-end brown bag lunches await you at Whalesbone Sustainable Oyster & Fish Supply. The best thing is you don’t have to feel guilty about any of it. Since the owners are conscious of the status of the fish stocks and the method of the harvest or catch, they source only fish that is Ocean-Wise certified and sustainable. You may pay a bit more for your sandwich, but you’ll feel better for it.

I ordered the Salmon Cake Sandwich ($6). The bread was fresh with a dusting of cornmeal, the salmon was crisped and spicy and filled with herbs and flavourings, and the layer of chutney was sweet and tangy. The Smoked Bacon and Mussel Potato Salad ($3) on the side was ok, but a bit too fishy for my liking.

On my way out, I picked up a fillet of fresh halibut for dinner. Salmon Cake Sandwich ($6), Smoked Bacon and Mussel Potato Salad ($3).
