The top 5 dance moves of 2013

This year brought us some instant classics when it comes to dance floor show-stoppers. Who could forget the Harlem Shake and twerking (thanks, Miley)?

Some moves, however, stand the test of time better than others. Google’s annual Zeitgeist has proven this year’s top-searched dance moves aren’t even necessarily from this year — and also that lots of people learn how to dance through Google searches.

Luckily, there’s still time to master these moves (if you don’t know them already). Make sure you bust them out at your New Year’s Eve party before they officially become last year’s trends.

1. Gangnam Style

This was South Korean artist Psy’s breakout hit of 2012, but it was still going strong in 2013 (see above).

2. The Cat Daddy

We are pretty sure this one was popular for one reason: Kate Upton. The bombshell supermodel demonstrated the move in a 2012 video shot by notoriously creepy photographer Terry Richardson, and 19 million views later it’s still one of 2013’s hottest searches.

3. The Dougie

Cali Swag District’s music video from 2010 went viral, prompting countless videos of others teaching the Internet “how to Dougie.” By 2013, believe it or not, some people still needed a lesson.

4. The Wobble

Rapper V.I.C. redefined the line dance with this 2008 hit, which has actually seemed to gain in popularity over time.

5. The YMCA

Yes, the world’s simplest and easiest dance is still one of the most popular Google searches. Not only is it fun to stay at the YMCA, it’s fun to Google it, too!
