Just like the NBC reality show America’s Got Talent, this year’s version of the Edmonton Street Performers Festival will give street performers the chance to become primetime acts.
But rather than seeing David Hasselhoff fight with Sharon Osbourne about who has talent, it will be up to fans to decide the value of the performance by the amount of money that they choose to put in performers’ hats, said Shelley Switzer, artistic producer for the festival.
The 10-day festival, featuring street-performing acts from around the world, runs today from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and it will offer nightly group performances during its Troupe du Jour — a new addition to the 23-year-old event. Each nightly show will run from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Churchill Square.
“They will be the best of the fest,” said Switzer. “Each night there will be a different act and the hat money goes to the artist.”
