A trucker is alive, but his rig is long gone after a bizarre and frightening incident overnight yesterday.

A carpooling station near Guelph was the scene of an Ontario Provincial Police investigation involving a transport operator who had been hijacked in Toronto. The 53-year-old trucker had apparently been forced from his rig, bound, gagged and transported roughly 60 kilometres west on Highway 401.

His muffled cries for help, emanating from a silver, four-door Acura 3.2 TL, were heard yesterday by commuters at the carpooling station around 6:15 a.m. He was discovered in the front seat, unharmed.

It appears the thieves were after a load described by an OPP spokesperson as “some sort of metal products.”
