A group of thieves is targeting Nova Scotia Power properties.
In the past month there were six thefts from NSP compounds in Lower Sackville, Lakeside and Westphal. An office in Lakeside was also hit and five laptops were stolen.
“We do believe it’s possibly the same people who are breaking into Nova Scotia Power,” said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin.
The thieves are striking at night by cutting the fence and having a vehicle waiting outside to haul heavy items like a gas-powered drill, chainsaws, tool chests and hundreds of pounds of copper wire.
David Rodenhiser, Nova Scotia Power spokesman, said each robbery meant thousands of dollars of lost supplies and equipment.
“At Lakeside, trucks belonging to Emera Utility Services (a sister company owned by Emera) were vandalized,” Rodenhiser wrote in an email.
“We have our own team of security investigators who work with police on these (thefts),” he added.
“The thefts appear to have been committed by the same group, so the RCMP has appointed an officer to handle all the files, which our investigators think is the right approach.”
