A sea of pink engulfed Stephen Avenue yesterday, as about 200 breast cancer survivors paraded through Bankers Hall to kick off Think Pink Week.
Cheers filled the air as parade participants gathered at Bankers Hall to celebrate their incredible journeys of survivorship.
This year marks the sixth year of the parade.
Corinne Davey, Survivor Parade volunteer for the past six years, said the event is extremely important to celebrate the women and men living with breast cancer.
The event provides awareness to help raise money for breast cancer research, education, and awareness.
Kassia Warshawski, coordinator for the fundraising calendar Pink Ribbon Pin-ups, is hoping to raise $100,000.
Warshawski, 24, said raising the money is important to her because she has always wanted to empower women.
“Supporting breast cancer is important to me, especially being so young.”
All proceeds will go towards breast cancer research. Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among Canadian women, according to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
“Be breast aware. Know how they look and feel,” said Brenda Moon, Survivor spokesperson.
Moon said this event is where the end of breast cancer begins — when everyone comes together as one. Think Pink Week runs Sept. 14-18 and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure takes place Oct. 4.
