Thomas the Tank Engine — that loveable talking train, best known for his redundant mantra of “I think I can, I think I can” — has been attacked for his right-wing slant, the Telegraph reports.
After watching the television show with her 3-year-old daughter, University of Alberta professor Shauna Wilton came to the conclusion that the series “represents a conservative political ideology that punishes individual initiative, opposes critique and change and relegates females to supportive roles.”
“We tend to think of children’s TV shows as neutral and safe,” Wilton writes, “but they still carry messages.”
