Charges are pending against a 40-year-old Sackville-area man after police say they intercepted a vehicle transporting 2,100 cartons of contraband cigarettes believed to be headed to the Halifax area.

The RCMP’s Customs and Excise Enforcement Section executed a search warrant on a vehicle and an attached tent trailer near Exit 11 in Stewiacke Monday, following what police termed a short-term investigation.

The smokes were located in the tent trailer, police allege, with each carton containing about 200 individual contraband cigarettes, for a total of 420,000 smokes seized by police.
