OTTAWA - Three people were taken to hospital after a plane landing in a rainstorm skidded off the runway at Ottawa's Macdonald-Cartier International airport.

United Express flight 8050 was coming from Washington, D.C. on Wednesday afternoon with 33 passengers and three crew members on board, officials said.

Two crew members and one passenger were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Brazilian-built Embraer 145 was being operated by Trans States airlines who have launched an investigation into the incident.

The Transportation Safety Board and Ottawa police are also investigating.

Ottawa officials said the incident did not disrupt traffic at the airport as all other incoming flights were diverted to another runway.

United Express acts as a contracted feeder service for United Airlines' regional customers.

It operates more than 2,200 scheduled daily flights across the U.S. and Canada.
