VANCOUVER - A beluga whale has died at Vancouver's aquarium.
Tiqa (tee-kah) is the second young whale to die in the last 15 months at the aquarium.
The aquarium issued a brief news release saying staff, particularly its animal care team and volunteers, are deeply saddened by the loss.
Qila (kee-lah), a born-in-captivity whale, gave birth to Tiqa on June 10, 2008.
Last June, a one-year-old calf died at the aquarium from an apparent infection, and an examination later found a pocket in the whale's larynx contained two stones and a penny.
Qila's body has been transferred to the Agriculture Ministry's Animal Health Centre for a necropsy to determine the cause of death.
