Tie those marriage knots tight, pastor

A Langley couple is taking the plunge today as they tie the knot while rappelling down a glass highrise in downtown Vancouver.

Rick Harker and Marlene Hoar will get married suspended outside the fifth floor of the AXA Place building (999 West Hastings St.) at noon as part of a B.C. Lions Society Easter Seals’ “Drop Zone” fundraiser.

“It made us feel good,” said Harker, 64, who has worked with the B.C. Lions Society for the past 25 years and heads its Eagles In The City project.

“People are supporting us and giving money to us in lieu of wedding presents and it’s going to the B.C. Lions Society.”

The pair has raised $5,460 for children in need. Their pastor, Brad Sumner, is also rappelling.

The three will have microphones so that people can hear the ceremony and vows from the street below.
