TIFF Film review: My Year Without Sex

My Year Without Sex
Rating: ** 1/2

Life is messy for a woman struggling with domestic life after brain surgery. She wants to have it all make sense and believe in something but can’t manage it, she’s trying to love her husband but can’t quite manage that, and the kids care only for the latest toys.

And she can’t have sex.

Despite the film’s candy-colour images, jolly animation and Australian sunshine, it is a dreary year, revealed in monthly episodes and topped with a big dollop of ennui.

It’s all about love and it looks upbeat, but doesn’t feel it.
