Ondine is a bizarre modern fairy tale from Neil Jordan. For a director best known for dark thrillers like The Crying Game, this choice of subject matter is a bit of a shock.
For the first hour, everything seems sweet and magical and the film works well, but once Jordan turns the material into the type of depressing thriller he’s known for, the movie falls apart. Colin Farrell stars as a fisherman who finds a woman in his net one morning. His daughter is convinced she’s a mythical sea creature and it’s really too bad that turns out to be false.
