Tim Hortons catches fire at St. Lawrence Market

Fire broke out inside a closed St. Lawrence Market Tim Hortons early
this morning, leaving the night shift baker running for safety.

Emergency crews were called to the restaurant on Front St. E., near Lower Jarvis St., just before 3 a.m.

Though
initially a one-alarm fire, it was quickly upgraded to a two-alarm
fire, likely because it spread so fast, the employee told the Star over the phone.

The
cause of the fire has yet to be determined but the employee, who made
the initial 911 call, said somehow the freezer caught fire.

The
restaurant had closed at 1 a.m., so only the night shift baker and a
manager at the attached Wendy’s restaurant were inside the building.
Neither was hurt.

“It’s been put out, no one was injured, everything’s OK, I guess,” the employee said about 30 minutes after the fire started.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within 20 minutes.
