Returning to Edmonton for a second year, Timeraiser brings together volunteers and artists through a unique concept.
Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on artwork from a variety of local artists, but instead of cash, they will pay a minimum of 20 volunteer hours to a local organization. The winning bidders will have a year to complete their hours, at which time they will gain possession of their piece of artwork.
Since the initial event in 2004, the six Canadian Timeraiser events have generated more than 73,500 volunteer hours and invested $389,000 in the careers of upcoming artists.
The grassroots initiative was started by a group of friends in Toronto that wanted to make it easier to discover relevant volunteer opportunities.
The Edmonton event begins at 7 p.m. Saturday. The event features a silent auction with food and drinks, followed by a live performance from Amy van Keeken’s Rock and Roll Sing-A-Long.
A number of local agencies will be soliciting for volunteers at the event, including Youth Emergency Shelter Society and Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital.
