Titanic life vest fetches big price

A very rare cork-and-canvas life vest from the ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic, which sank in the cold North Atlantic Ocean in 1912, sold at Christie’s auction house in New York City for $68,500, Wednesday.

One of only six known Titanic life preservers in existence, the object was recovered by John James Dunbar of North Lake, Cape Breton, and passed down within the family.
