The top seeds continued to cruise along in men’s open singles quarter-final action at the Bell and Grant Nova Scotia Open tennis tournament yesterday.

No. 1-ranked Adam Becker, who won the tournament in 2008, survived a tough test from Justin McDonough with a narrow 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) victory at the Waegwoltic Club in Halifax.

Phil Anderson, seeded second and the 2005 champion, knocked off Robbie Weatherston in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.

Becker faces Geoff Learmonth in one semifinal today while Anderson faces Travis McDonough in the other.
