Toronto fashion maven gets on the move in her Rabbit

Jessica Jensen is quickly making a name for herself in the fashion world. The Toronto handbag designer, who’s been hailed by some in the industry as Canada’s handbag queen, has, over the past two years, garnered a devoted following of fashionistas flocking to buy her beautifully crafted bags. From totes to clutches, all of her creations are lined with Jensen’s signature blush pink suede.

But running her eponymous fashion company means Jensen spends a lot of time on the road.

“I drive down to New York City to see my showroom and suppliers and the factory,” she says, adding that she also frequently makes the road trip to her Buffalo warehouse to pick up supplies.

And it’s her brand new 2009 Volkswagen Rabbit Sport Edition that gets her everywhere.

“We just got it a few months ago and I’ve already put 15,000 km on. We just love it,” she says of her black car. Jensen credits her car’s back seats, which fold down, with providing her tons of room to pack inventory.

Jensen, who lives in the heart of Toronto with her her husband, photographer Joshua Jensen-Nagle, was also looking for a vehicle that was city-oriented. “I really wanted something that was small and compact, but still has good looks and quality,” she says. The final choice came down to picking a Golf or a Rabbit.

“The Rabbit had a little bit more luxe to it, so I scooped that up pretty quickly,” she quips. When it comes to her driving, Jensen admits: “I’ve always had a bit of a lead foot.”

But then, we’re talking about someone who doesn’t let the grass grow under her feet. Jensen is already planning the expansion of her business. Over the next few years, she plans to introduce a full line of ready-to-wear as well as footwear, home goods and jewelry.

And in the car department, she reveals she has her sights set on one day owning a Mini.

“I would love a cream Mini Cooper convertible,” she says. “I love Minis and I love the colour cream, so I have an affinity for both.”

Considering how well business is doing for Jensen, it won’t be long before she’s scooting around Toronto in her dream car.
