TORONTO — Toronto police officers have won a long-fought battle — to grow goatees.
The Toronto Police Association, the union representing 7,450 civilian and uniformed members, filed a grievance over a year ago over not having the freedom to groom their facial hair.

The police service recently dropped its opposition to goatees on officers, and the official Uniform and Equipment Standards were updated.
Spokesman Const. Tony Vella says he does not know the exact reason for the uniform change, which took place on March 30.
But he says there are still specific rules in place about how to properly wear a goatee.
He says the goatee must be evenly trimmed, neat in appearance and worn with a moustache.
“You can’t have those handlebar moustaches,” he added.
