The city issued an extreme cold weather alert yesterday, in order to help homeless people get inside from the frigid conditions.

It follows a sudden drop in the temperature that has made it feel like -20 C with the wind chill. The city will open an additional 171 shelter spaces, and provide transit tokens so people can get to the shelters. Today, Environment Canada is calling for a high of -8 C with a wind chill of -26 C in the morning.
