Torres' Halloween costume stirs up controversy

On Sunday, the Phoenix Coyotes held themselves a little Halloween party and forward Paul Bissonnette decided he would post a few photos on his dependably witty Twitter feed, and it didn't take long for all hell to break loose over teammate Raffi Torres' choice of costume.

That would be because Torres and his wife arrived at the event decked out in their most resplendent Jay-Z and Beyoncé fashions, which, perhaps unfortunately, also involved painting themselves brown.

Catching wind of the brewing firestorm, Bissonnette later tweeted "As far as everyone trying to call "Racism" because Raffi dressed up like Jay-Z can simmer down. He's a huge Jay-Z fan." He has since retweeted supportive statements from other users.

If there is a debate to be had over the couple's costume, it seems to be boiling down to whether the whole thing is blackface or if the two are simply dressing as characters they admire. Which, of course, can get complicated.
