Track all the active hate groups in your area with this ‘hate map’

There’s a map that will let you track all the hate groups in your city and state.

Last week, violence from members of white nationalist groups in Charlottesville, Virginia left one individual dead and around 20 people injured, proving hate groups exist and are very active in cities around the country.

In an effort to keep an ongoing record of the number of hate groups in the country, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) created a hate group map that shows the steady increase of hate groups in the country and which state they are in.

The hate group map uses information from publications and websites, law enforcement reports and other criteria to determine if a group is considered a hate group.

According to their interactive map, they have listed 917 organizations across the country considered to be active hate groups.

In 2016, there were at least 130 active Ku Klux Klan groups, 99 neo-Nazi groups and 100 white nationalist groups nationwide, according to the SPLC. Their data shows there were 193 black separatist groups in 2015 and a total of 663 active “anti-government patriot” groups active in 2016.

The map lets you sort through a variety of different groups including neo-Nazis, black separatists, anti-Muslim and Ku Klux Klan. There are 14 different groups the SPLC lets you choose and you can filter each group by state to see which hate group is nearby and active.

The map clearly shows a high concentration of hate groups in Southeastern regions of the country.

Here’s a closer look at hate groups in the New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts areas.
