A driver of a van was charged yesterday after a collision at an intersection on Forest Hills Drive in Cole Harbour that led to a pedestrian being struck in the head by a traffic light pole.

Halifax RCMP allege a pickup truck was turning at the intersection around noontime when the driver of the van accelerated as the light turned yellow.

The van hit the pickup truck, lost control and crashed into a traffic light pole.

Police say the pole then fell and struck a 49-year-old pedestrian in the head. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries that aren’t life threatening.

The driver of the van was charged with failing to yield to a vehicle already in an intersection.
