Training event at airport today

In a training exercise, “terrorists” are planning an aircraft hijacking, a bomb threat and a fire at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport today.

It’s a simulation to train airport staff as well as police and first responders in the event of an actual emergency, said Gordon Duke, director of airport operations.

“This exercise is designed to practise our ability to interact with the other agencies,” Duke said.

Exercises like these are mandatory as part of the airport’s ground lease with Transport Canada and take place every three years.
