Low-income transit users got a break from city council yesterday.

It voted to not only halt an increase but also lower the price.

The cost of the monthly pass for low-income Calgarians is currently $41.50 but will be dropped to $40.

“It’s very, very meaningful for people living in poverty and it’s meaningful that city council chose to send these messages to people — that if you’re poor in Calgary, they care and they’re going to work to help you,” said Dan Meades of Vibrant Communities Calgary.
