Transit City officer the last man standing

Community liaison officer Devin Horne swears he isn’t lonely or worried about his job, even though friends and family have been asking.

Community liaison officer Devin Horne swears he isn’t lonely or worried about his job, even though friends and family have been asking.

He understands their concern, given that he is the sole staff member at what could be the last outpost of the Transit City light-rail plan.

Once hailed for its potential to transform Toronto’s suburbs, Transit City was declared dead last week by newly-minted Mayor Rob Ford.

Most of the TTC’s Transit City employees immediately shifted their attention to a new Ford-ordered underground transit plan. But Horne remains in the Sheppard East community office near the Agincourt GO station.

Horne expects to stay there as long as construction continues on a rail bridge that will eliminate a level GO train crossing there by fall 2012. The TTC says that has to happen regardless of what kind of transit eventually gets built on Sheppard.

His job is to smooth the impacts of the Sheppard construction on nearby businesses and residents.
