TransLink rejects atheist ad proposal

TransLink has rejected the B.C. Humanist Association’s proposal to put “You can be good without God” ads on Metro Vancouver’s transit system.

The group approached TransLink with ad designs last week.

After reviewing the material, TransLink officials deemed it not fit for the transit system because it did not meet the criteria set out in the company’s advertising policy.

A section of it states: “No advertisements will be accepted which promotes or opposes a specific theology or religious ethic, point of view, policy or action.”

The Standards and Limitations section of TransLink’s advertising policy has been in place for more than 20 years and was adopted by B.C. Transit, which operated transit services before TransLink was created in 1999.
