TransLink is set to review its safety practices after a guide dog nearly died on the Lougheed SkyTrain platform Thursday morning.
“It’s a very regrettable situation,” said Ken Hardie, TransLink spokesperson.
“We’re going to try to do whatever we can to prevent that sort of thing from happening again.”
An internal review of SkyTrain’s emergency procedures will be conducted to determine whether or not any of its safety features need to be refined.
Iris Thompson, Palm’s owner, who was left in a panic as she was forced to travel to the train’s next stop while worrying about her dog’s condition, said she’s wondering why a sudden-stop function isn’t available inside the trains.
It’s because SkyTrains are completely automated, said Hardie. An in-train emergency stop button wouldn’t be manageable without train personnel.
He added that a review by Access Transit — an advisory committee of members from the disabled community — will also be conducted.
