This year’s oversized Christmas tree propped in Grand Parade Square will be glimmering with energy efficient LED lights.

Haligonians can come see it sparkle at the tree-lighting ceremony on Saturday from 6 to 7 p.m.

The Halifax Boys Honour Choir will kick off the event, followed by a live performance by the Backyardigans and a visit from Santa.

The Halifax Regional Municipality is also asking event-goers to bring a non-perishable food item.

In case you were wondering, the forecast for Saturday’s tree lighting is calling for no rain and temperatures around the freezing mark.
