WINDSOR, Ont. – Vincent Trochek scored twice, including the deciding goal in a shootout as the Saginaw Spirit defeated the Windsor Spitfires 5-4 on Thursday.
Trochek notched his team-leading 23rd marker of the season for the Spirit (21-21-5) and also assisted on goals by Brandon Saad and for Eric Locke, as the visitors rallied to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the third period.
The Spitfires jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes on a pair of goals by Kerby Rychel and Stephen Alonge.
Michael Fine scored for Saginaw in the third period before Saverio Posa replied for Windsor (21-22-5) to send the game into extra time.
Saad was also thwarted on a penalty shot he was awarded after being impeded on a breakaway.
Jaroslav Pavelka made 41 saves for the Spitfires who are now tied with the Spirit for third place in the OHL’s West Division.
The Spirit also held a 22-10 shot advantage in the middle frame.
Jake Windsor made 36 saves for Saginaw.
