A boot and a remnant of clothing remain on the road after a tractor-trailer allegedly ran over the leg of a 57-year-old woman at a downtown intersection yesterday.

A 57-year-old woman suffered a serious lower leg injury after being struck by a tractor-trailer while crossing Rideau Street at the Cumberland Street intersection, shortly after noon yesterday.

The front wheel of the truck allegedly ran over the woman’s leg. Paramedics treated the woman and transported her to the hospital, where she remained in serious but stable condition last night.

Sgt. Damien Coakeley with Ottawa Police said the driver of the truck was shaken-up following the collision, but unhurt. Police closed Besserer Street between Waller and Cumberland streets, to investigate but reopened the streets after 1:30 p.m.

A jacket and a boot lay on the ground near a pool of blood after paramedics took the woman to hospital.

The driver of the tractor-trailer is facing one charge under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
