A 50-year-old commercial driver was killed early yesterday morning when the truck he was driving rolled off a bridge into the Vedder Canal in Chilliwack.

The crash forced the closure of westbound traffic on Highway 1 for about eight hours.

It was the third incident involving a commercial vehicle in the Lower Mainland in 24 hours, said RCMP Insp. Ted Emanuels.

On Monday a dump truck collided with the centre median on the Trans-Canada Highway at the Capilano exit. That evening another dump truck overturned on a Highway 1 off-ramp. There were no injuries in the first incident and only minor injuries in the second.
