The only way Toronto’s battered Catholic trustees can regain the public trust is to be allowed to keep running the board — not have an outsider takeover, said trustee Oliver Carroll.
At a tense board meeting last night designed to try to wipe out a $14-million budget and fend off a takeover as early as next week, Carroll said trustees were elected to do a job and must be allowed to do it.
“At the end of the day, the only way this board is going to learn how to run the board is to actually run the board — whether or not members of the public like it,” said Carroll. “People can snicker, but we’re quite capable of running the board and that’s what we’ve been elected to do.”
