Re: “Escalator repairs can be a complicated affair”, In Transit, Aug. 22: I must disagree with Ed Drass’s conclusions.
The old eastbound escalator at Keele subway station was overhauled three times in one year, since the job was not done properly the first time. Similar repeated overhauls to other west end station escalators forced my late father, who could no longer climb stairs, to take taxis.
When Ed Drass and I visited the Broadview Station years ago as part of the Rocket Riders group, the cleaner told us she repeatedly called the repair department to fix the escalator and it was quickly put back into service, but the problem causing the breakdown was never fixed.
The TTC should hire employees who are able and willing to maintain its escalators.
