TTC researching pros and cons of platform-edge doors

Platform-edge doors could have prevented two teens from falling into the path of an oncoming subway train after being pushed at Dufferin station Friday.

Neither boy was seriously injured, but Brad Ross, spokesman for the Toronto Transit Commission, says the TTC continues to research the benefits of the floor-to-ceiling screens.

“We’re studying that right now in terms of what kinds of infrastructure would be required to retro-fit stations with platform-edge doors, including what the costs may be,” he said.

In 2007, the city began a project that will see several stations along the Yonge-University line automated with platform-edge doors by 2012.
