It must be one of those love-hate relationships.

After months of complaints about surly, slack service on the TTC, it seems Torontonians are riding transit in record numbers and TTC management is already moving on the longstanding idea of installing station managers on the subway system.

The TTC is believed to be the only major transit system in North America bucking the bad economy. The riders it is attracting are off-peak users. Rush-hour ridership has actually dipped, along with employment.

“People are taking more off-peak trips, which suggests people are committing to a transit lifestyle,” said TTC chair Adam Giambrone.
