The Toronto Transit Commission will decide at a special meeting Friday whether to proceed with the lease of a new headquarters at Yonge Street and York Mills Road.

The new office space, being developed by Build Toronto, the city’s arm’s-length real estate corporation, would be located on TTC property and replace the transit agency’s Davisville headquarters.

If the commission approves the framework for an agreement, it will still have at least 30 days to iron out financial and other details.

City councillors on the transit commission will discuss the matter behind closed doors, as all city real estate business is conducted privately.

The idea is to consolidate all of the TTC’s 1,300 office employees under one roof. Only about 300 work at the Davisville headquarters, which needs about $30 million in renovations, according to spokesperson Brad Ross. The rest are scattered in seven offices around the city with leases that cost about $8.6 million annually.
