Toni Collette is the latest refugee from the creatively moribund movie world to seek refuge on quality cable with this dark comedy about a woman with multiple personalities. Playing schizo is up there with doing gay roles for actors, so expect Collette to sink her teeth into this, and hope for her sake that the scripts on this Steven Spielberg-produced Showtime venture hold up their end.

This sort of smutty but smart show – returning for its second season – is a kind of Showtime trademark. Billie Piper’s Belle gets a sidekick of sorts for the new season, which one supposes turns it into a hooker version of The Green Hornet.

You might still be wincing from Dore’s turn on Canadian Idol (I know I am), but this low-budget sitcom – in the general vein of Sarah Silverman’s show – is a better fit for his “edgy” comedy. Canadians, with the notable exception of Kenny Vs. Spenny, tend to choke when they try this, but for the sake of our comic future, let’s pray that Dore can manage to be truly, gleefully offensive.
