As the world waited in anticipation, Prince William and his wife Catherine welcomed a baby boy Monday afternoon at St. Mary’s Hospital in London. The child weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces, according to an official press release from Kensington Palace.

As always in the Twitter age, news of the royal birth traveled fast — and so did the jokes. Word of Britain’s new prince spread like wildfire and tweeters jumped at the chance to congratulate, criticize or simply make a wise crack. A perhaps unsurprisingly staggering amount of Twitter users took to referring to the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly Kate Middleton, as a “MILF,” an acronym made popular by the “American Pie” franchise, which stands for “Mom I’d Like to F—.” It’s enough to make the queen blush.
The royal couple has been the center of fascination since long before their fairytale wedding in 2011. They were the target of a media frenzy last year after intimate vacation photos of the couple were published, showing the duchess topless and bottomless as the pair sunbathed.
