Two hurt as small plane crash-lands

Emergency crews rushed to a small airstrip east of Edmonton yesterday, after a small plane crash-landed in a field.

Shortly before 1 p.m., the plane smashed into a farmer’s field southwest of the South Cooking Lake Airport, about 20 kilometres east of Sherwood Park.

Details about how the small, 172A Cessna crashed were sketchy yesterday afternoon, but emergency officials said the pilot had been flying in the area for a few days before the accident.

The pilot and a female passenger were treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene.

The Canadian Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the accident.
