About 300,000 illegal cigarettes were found in the back of a pick-up truck on the weekend.

RCMP officers stopped a truck on Highway 104 near Truro on Saturday. They found 1,500 cartons of contraband cigarettes, each holding about 200 cigarettes.

Two Halifax-area men both 43 years old, were arrested and RCMP say charges are pending. Also one of the men allegedly had a small amount of drugs on him.

RCMP warned the public not to buy illegal tobacco products because the proceeds often fund criminal organizations, drug trafficking, and illegal weapons.
