Two people escape without injury after house allegedly set on fire

Two people were inside a house on Ostrea Lake Road when it was allegedly set on fire on Saturday night.

Firefighters were called to the house near Musquodoboit Harbour before 10 p.m. The two people inside the house at the time escaped the blaze without injury.

A witness told Halifax RCMP officers they saw a man running away from the house holding a jerry can.

Police arrested 34-year-old James Edward Brown a short time later and he appeared in a Dartmouth courtroom yesterday.

He will be back in court on June 9 for a show-cause hearing.

Brown has a lengthy list of prior charges and convictions.

He is currently facing a charge of arson with disregard for human life and assault with a weapon from another incident.

Previously, he’s faced charges of careless use of a firearm, carrying a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, failure to stop at the scene of an accident, operating while impaired, and uttering threats to burn, destroy or damage real or personal property.
