Two traffic stops, three people charged with drug trafficking

Two unrelated routine traffic stops Wednesday night resulted in three people charged with drug trafficking.

Halifax Regional Police performed the first stop in the 3500 block of Joseph Howe Drive at about 8 p.m. Police say a subsequent search of the vehicle revealed an undisclosed quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, which officers seized.

A 25-year-old East Preston resident was charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and will appear in court on a later date.

The second stop was on Montebello Hill Drive in Dartmouth just before midnight. Police say officers witnessed a vehicle travelling at high speeds and ignoring stop signs along Caledonia Road.

As the vehicle was travelling down Montebello Hill, officers saw the passenger throw a white plastic bag out the window. According to police, the bag contained marijuana. A subsequent search of the vehicle also netted drug paraphernalia.

A 26-year-old Halifax man and a 24-year-old North Preston man are each charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. They will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on May 5.
