A pharmaceutical company has given the University of Alberta a $5 million gift.
GlaxoSmithKline Inc. presented the gift to the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the U of A in support of their groundbreaking virology research.
“This is a reflection of the excellence of the virology research team here at the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology,” said the company’s president and CEO, Paul Lucas.
The researchers at the Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology are at the forefront in the study of how viruses infect cells and cause disease, how viral infections can be prevented, and new, better ways to treat those infected.
The Research Support Endowment Fund will be used to sustain the operations of the institute.
