He’s a spokesman for the Ottawa Food Bank, a member of the Leadership Table on Homelessness, was an honorary chair of the Ottawa Humane Society’s Wiggle Waggle Walkathon and a champion of Project North, which delivers sporting equipment to isolated communities in Canada’s far north.

And of course, he’s the chief of the Ottawa Police Service.

Last night, Chief Vern White added United Way Community Builder of the Year to his roster of accomplishments.

The chief was among those honoured at the 10th annual Community Builder of the Year Awards Gala last night.

All of the recipients “are shining examples of what can be achieved when people set their hearts and minds on making this community a better place for all,” said Michael Allen, president and CEO of United Way Ottawa.
