Maritimers are getting educated: In 2007, Maritime universities granted 16,391 degrees, certificates and diplomas, an all-time high. In Nova Scotia, 7,972 people got undergraduate degrees, a 7.8 per cent increase from the year before.

The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission says that’s partly because of the high number of “double cohort” Ontario high school grads, who came to Nova Scotia to study the year grade 13 was eliminated.

Enrolment at Nova Scotia universities overall was down for the 2007-08.
