A Guelph, Ont., manufacturer of brake pads is raising concerns over “huge amounts of Chinese product dumped into Canada” particularly as there are no mandatory Canadian standards for replacement brake pads.
In simulated panic stops during ABS Friction’s tests of competitive products, chief executive Rick Jamieson says some pads “self-destruct — the brake pad will literally break down.” Many also contain undisclosed asbestos.
“In China, the people can make very high-quality goods, and inevitably there are some products of inferior quality,” said a spokesperson in the Chinese consulate.
